SU Ag Center Communities of Color Inducts Area Business Spoken Red Tobacco Free
OPELOUSAS, LA – Regions 4 and 5 Coordinator Troy Kennedy will induct Area Business, Spoken Red Enterprises, as tobacco free in the SU Ag Center Communities of Color Network. This private event is scheduled Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. here in Opelousas, LA. Communities of Color Network staff works collaboratively with members of the communities, organizations and partners to increase the awareness of and utilization of cessation services among Louisiana's communities. “Since my first involvement with Spoken Red back in 2012, I knew this business shown heavy care and concern for the community.” said Kennedy. ”From hosting its annual calendar project to its community outreach program for kids 5-17, Spoken Red strives to create new leaders and bring amateurs into the spotlight!” Kennedy added, “This is one of many growing businesses we are seeking to add to our network. We strive hard to raise awareness in the importance of being a tobacco free business and implementing continuous efforts through the community.” Louisiana's tobacco statistics are startling. The state ranks number two as the largest percentage of African-American smokers. Nearly 24 percent of Louisiana adults smoke and a quarter of high school students in Louisiana are smokers. The Communities of Color Network serves as the infrastructure for building capacity, coordinating, organizing, and implementing tobacco prevention and control programs and activities in the region.
